Diamond Hill Quartz Mine, Antreville, South Carolina Saturday June 24th, 2000 (FEE AREA) Meet Time: Crawford's Country Store, Antreville, SC. Collecting Location: Diamond Hill Mine, Antreville, South Carolina Children

This is a fee site! The mine is located near the little town of Antreville. We will meet at Crawford's store which is located there. From the store meeting place we will go on to the mine. Mr. Jack Browning (owner of the mine) will be at the mine to collect the fees. Cost: Adults $10.00/day, ages 6-12 = $7.00/day, and under 6 free What you can expect to find: This is a Quartz mine and a lot of beautiful material has been found there over the years. Some Amethyst has been found there though it is quite rare. We can stay at the mine until dark if we like. On Sunday or possibly later in the day on Saturday we will be going to another site that is nearby but I will tell everyone about that at the mine on Saturday also for those that want to dig at Diamond Hill for two days they probably will be able to. [Note: There is plenty of quartz here. Most common are gray, milky-smoky quartz and skeletal(secondary growth) white quartz. Less frequent are amethyst and high-quality smoky quartz. DMC] Tools: Pick, Rock hammer, Sledge hammer, Shovel, Screwdrivers or chisels, Gloves, Safety Glasses, and of course Bags and Buckets. Bring: Lunch and plenty of water. Sunscreen and bug spray might help too.. Meet: Meet at 9:00 AM at Crawford's Country Store, Antreville, SC. Directions: From Columbia the directions to Antreville are as follows: Take US 378 to Saluda. In Saluda get on US 178 towards Greenwood continue through Greenwood on US 178 to SC 72 to Abbeville. In Abbeville continue until you come to SC 28 North. Take SC 28 North to Antreville. In Antreville near the intersection of SC 28 and SC 184 will be Crawford's Country Store, which will probably be open.
