FOSSIL FIELD TRIP SATURDAY, March 27th, 1999 Cross (Martin Marietta) Quarry, Cross SC (FEE AREA) Location: Cross (Martin Marietta ) Quarry, Cross SC Children 12 or over allowed.

Aggregates, Berkeley Quarry (a.k.a. - Cross Quarry)
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Hard hats required. Safety glasses required if working with or near hammers. Participants will walk about a half mile to the collecting site; VEHICLES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED INSIDE THE QUARRY PROPERTY ON THIS TRIP. All participants are subject to Aiken G&MS rules, and are subject to the directions of the AGMS field trip leader. All DMC Clubs are expected to publish this trip as an "Official Trip" for their club. Participants are expected to enter the mine with the trip leader, and not before. BRING: Hard hat, safety glasses, water, backpack, lunch, scraping tool such as trowel or screwdriver. Most collectors search the surface for loose finds. Hammers, shovels, and screens are permitted but probably won't be useful. Note: Brandy Adcock, a member of the Georgia Mineral Society, found one of the finest invertebrate Eocene Crabs ever collected in the southeast on a GMS fossil trip to Cross Quarry in March of 1997! The crab has since been donated to the Smithsonian. DMCMeet at: We will be meeting at 9:30 AM in the theater parking lot located behind McDonalds at the junction of SR 515/76 and SR 5 in Blue Ridge, Ga.
