Lime Quarry

County
Appomattox,
VA
Children

No
pets
And
the collecting is FREE
Our
club has been collecting here for many years and just like any other Quarry
if you are there at the right time we have found some very nice Calcite
Buttons along with Dolomite Crystals. Also there is some Pyrite
Cubes ranging from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch. There are veins of
Pink Marble and some small samples of Sphalerite and Greenockite.
We have never been disappointed when we visit this location. The
people that run the site are very friendly and have always greeted us with
open arms. It is also close to historic Appomattox and could be tied
in for a very nice Weekend trip.
Special
Conditions: Because of the small size of the Quarry we will have
to limit the number of people. If you want to attend you will
need to call or e-mail GMSLV no later than 30 days in advance.
You
will need to bring study shoes suited for climbing on rocks (no tennis
shoes please), Hard hat, hammers, chisels, safety glasses and gloves.
We
will meet at the Jumbos Restaurant on Route 460 just east of Lynchburg
and leave by 8:00 AM.
From
Lynchburg you just get on 460 and go east for about 3 to 4 miles or about
2 miles out side of the city limits. Jumbos will be on your
right hand side of the highway. If the number of visitors gets
too large we might have to move some of the visitor down to another parking
lot and rejoin before embarking on the trip.
Lynchburg
is about 60 miles east of Roanoke and travel from Roanoke to our meeting
place is roughly 1 hour and 20 mins. |
