10:30 AM, CDT, Saturday, May 12, 2001 Epes, AL. The Huntsville Gem and Mineral Society will host the May Dixie Mineral Council mineral field trip to Epes, AL where there is abundant Marcasite (balls and crystal formations) and some Cretaceous fossils (e.g., Exogyra) embedded in the banks of the Tombigbee River. This site has ample parking and easy access to the specimen material. Due to travel times to Epes, we shall meet at 10:30 a.m. CDT at the Burger King Restaurant off of Interstate 20 at exit #17 (County Road 28/Livingston, AL). A "brunch" at Burger King should tide us over the lunch period. There will be ample collecting time. Bring: Tools for shallow scraping or digging should be ample. Area accommodations: If planning to lodge overnight in the
area, it is suggested that one plan on staying in either

Directions to our meeting place: On Interstate 20 between Tuscaloosa,
AL and Meridian, MS, take the Livingston exit #17 (County Road 28).
This exit is about 56 miles southwest of Tuscaloosa, or 40 miles northeast
of Meridian, MS.
