Martin Marietta's Bessemer City Quarry Saturday May 22nd, 1999 Tryon, Gaston County, North Carolina Children: Allowed, but
with parental supervision required!
TRIP: Martin Marietta's Bessemer City Quarry, Gaston County, NC Collecting: Spodumene, apatite, fluorapatite and other minerals. This is a classic collecting location, and has provided some of the most sought after mineral specimens for North Carolina collectors. Conditions: We will be collecting in the dump areas, and will not be allowed into the actual pit(s). The dumps, however, constitute the 2nd largest "mountain" in North Carolina. As such, special attention should be made concerning footwear, and care should be taken when climbing on these rockpiles. Bring: Hammers, chisels, gloves, goggles, hardhats and safety shoes and buckets (not to mention water and food). No power tools will be allowed. Pictures
