Byrdstown, Tennessee
The DMC field trip for November 2001 will be hosted by the Knoxville
Gem & Mineral Society of Knoxville, TN.
Collecting: Agatized crinoid stems and heads, agatized plates
of exposed crinoid material, quartz geodes.
Equipment: Geology hammer, buckets, small sledge hammer, chisels,
a pick and shovel. Bring rubber boots and a change of clothes if you want
to collect in the lake. Be sure to bring something to eat and drink.
Meeting location: In the parking lot beside the Dairy Queen in Byrdstown,
TN.
Directions: From Knoxville, take I-40 towards Cookeville, Tennessee.
Exit the Interstate onto SR 111 North through Livingston, TN and on towards
Byrdstown, TN. The Dairy Queen parking lot is located on the right,
17 miles North of Livingston, TN. at the corner of SR 111 and Cove Creek
Road. Start looking for the Dairy Queen about two miles after you
cross the large bridge over Dale Hollow lake.
Travel time: From Knoxville - 2.5 hours.
"Field Trips are open to all members of associated clubs of the
DMC program of the SFMS Field Trip Committee and to all members of SFMS
member clubs who have provided their membership with SFMS liability insurance.
Because of insurance requirements, members of the GENERAL PUBLIC are NOT
invited on this or any DMC program field trips!" |
