Mineral Collecting Site Graves Mountain near Lincolnton, GA Saturday, November 13th, 1999 Saturday, November 11th, 2000 Fee: There is no collection fee, but a request is made
to all participants to donate $2 to Clarence Norman, Jr.
Safety: All Combustion Engineering safety requirements apply.
Collecting: Among the minerals that can be found at Graves Mountain are alunite, andalusite, barite, gibbsite, goethite, hematite, gold, limenite, jarosite, kaolinite, kyanite, lazulite, magnetite, paragonite, phosphosiderite, pyrite, pyrophyllite, quartz, rutile, sulfur, svanbergite and topaz. Tools: Depending on the amount of work you want to do, bring the appropriate tools. It is recommended that people bring chisels; hammers, large and small; shovels and other related digging tools. Bring a container to place your specimens. Pyrophyllite is very fragile; special care should be taken if you find pyrophyllite crystals and wish to take them home. Bring: Bring plenty of water. Dehydration can be a problem when working in the pit even in cool weather. Bring your own lunch or other snacks. The nearest fast food restaurant is about 6 miles. There are also no rest room facilities at Graves Mountain so be prepared. Security
