The Charlotte Gem and Mineral Club will be hosting the DMC field trip to Yates Brooks, Shelby, North Carolina. Yates Brooks is a well-known location for green mica books in clusters and single crystals. 

Driving Directions: From Charlotte, take I-85S to exit 10 (highway 74) toward Shelby. Take I-74 all the way through Shelby to NC-226N. At the light, there is an Ingles Grocery where we will meet in the parking lot at 9:00 a.m.

What to Bring: Shovel, small digging tools, chisels, small sledge (3-4 lb.), small pry bar, small screen, gloves, buckets, paper to wrap minerals. There is no water available, so please bring enough for your stay.

What to Wear: Typical digging clothes. There are no toilets.

Collecting Hours: 9:00 a.m. until whenever you decide to quit.

Fee: $5 per person, which will be collected from everyone before we start digging. Children are allowed.

Special Note: If any large holes are dug, please fill them in when you are finished as the owner has cattle roaming the area.

Because of insurance requirements, members of the GENERAL PUBLIC are NOT invited on this or any DMC program field trips!"
