GMS Discussion Group Goals, Guidelines, Details

Goals:

• Help facilitate communications among GMS members and those interested in the earth sciences. 
• Provide related announcements to all members on the email discussion group list. 

• No flaming, profanity, abusive language, spamming, hoaxes, chain letters, or copyrighted material without permission from the owner.
• Include a meaningful subject line with every message. 
• Include any reference or quote pertinent text from the original message, but limit to only the required text.  Do not include the whole message or digest if it is not required. 
• Submit message posts as plain text only.  Do not include HTML formatted messages, graphics, binaries, email attachments, or other items needing translating. 
• The GMS discussion group e-mail list is to be used for only related information on our hobby.  The e-mail list is dedicated to the education and the sharing of information among members of The Georgia Mineral Society.  Posts not limited to, but including questions and answers, tips, techniques, hints, help, GMS announcements, general announcements, member news, and other related information are appropriate and encouraged.  When responding to a message, decide for yourself if your response should be sent directly to the individual as an off-list, private email, or if it's of general  interest to the group at large. 
• Email list members not conforming to the guidelines are subject to being removed from the list at anytime for the benefit of the group. 
• These guidelines and details may be changed at anytime. 

• Messages posted on the email list are the opinion and expressions of the individuals posting the messages and not those of the Georgia Mineral Society. 
• This is a private email list, only members of the email list can send and receive messages to and from the list.  This is done to eliminate spam.  You should assume anyone may read any message that you send to the group.  Messages may be made public at any time. 
• This is an unmoderated email list.  When any member posts a message, it will automatically be sent to all members.  This is easily subject to change, if the need arises! 
• This is a unrestricted email list, all email list join requests are automatically approved by the moderator and will become a member. 
• Personal settings of group members allow all messages for a day to be included in a digest and only sent once a day or you may choose to receiving all messages as they are sent or only view messages on the Internet.  Personal settings also allow you a "No-Mail" option to halt message delivery while you are out of town.  These options tend to minimizes delays and allows for a more interactive discussion. 
• Information included in discussions may be published or compiled with other information for FAQ or related topics. 
• The message archive stores all messages the GMS Discussion Group has ever sent.   It's a great tool for browsing past information.
• The GMS Discussion Group has 20 megabytes of private storage space for saving files, photos, and any other group documents.
• There is a calendar function where the Discussion Group can schedule meetings, events, and even set up automatic email reminders to keep the group informed.
• GMS Discussion Group can schedule a group chat in our own private GMS chat room.
• There is a polling function available where the Discussion Group can ask the members pertinent questions of interest to the group as a whole.
