GMS Field Trip
Various Minerals in Georgia
Saturday, January 12, 2019

Minerals to be found: lazulite, rutile, pyrophyllite, ilmenite, kyanite, iridescent hematite and many micro minerals.

Everyone started showing up at the mine site around 9am. The weather was cold (high 30's to low 40's) and cloudy but not raining which was great for this site. We had about 28 adults and 2 juniors show up for the dig. It is always great to see the juniors show up.

Just before lunch David Bruce got into a great pocket of iridescent hematite. Several others found good pockets of hematite as well. Everyone seemed to have a good time even with the cold temperatures. Everyone found a little something. We ended the day around 4:30 with a lot of tired people. Looking forward to going back soon.
