| 1. Select a site to investigate based on reported mineral occurrences
or fresh exposures due to excavation or construction. Check the GMS website
or project coordinator for a project number. Project numbers are assigned
a county code and a sequential number. This allows easier access of the
collected and archived data.
2. If necessary, obtain permission to collect from: 3. Obtain topographic, geographic and geological maps of the collecting site.DNR [ ] 4. Secure copies of collecting protocol, specimen labels and specimen bags from project coordinators. 5. Recommended safety equipment:

8. Try to make all drawings and sketches as clear as possible. Make sure to cross reference specimen numbers with location information in your sketches and drawings. 9. Contact project coordinators to make arrangements for chemical or instrumental analysis of specimens. 10. After all data and specimens are collected, contact project coordinators
for archiving of specimens and collected data.
