Little Pine Garnet Mine
Marshall, NC

Almandine garnets

We parked by Little Pine Creek and proceeded to the mine.
Here we go for those big garnets...

The Almandine garnets are somewhat weathered and replaced with chlorite but  you can find rather large ones.  The crystal structure is sometimes elongated which makes these garnet specimens unusual.

The adit.
The Adit!

Parts of the mine are narrow!
Hammer and chisels were need to liberate the garnets.

"Bustin rock" in the adit!
