GOLD RUSH DAYS
During the second full weekend in February, thousands of people and participants come to Wickenburg to enjoy a multitude of activities ranging from a shoot-out on Frontier Street, a rodeo, parade, arts and crafts booths and, of course, food.  Unfortunatly,  this is the same weekend that the Roving Rockhounds arrive for our week of field trips.  Reservation have to be made early in order to secure a room or RV spot.

PIZZA NIGHT  - Feb. 14, 2006
We usually try to get together for Pizza during our first and third weeks of field trips. This way we can talk about up coming field trips and go over organizational matters.
The club buys the Pizzas and we buy our beverages.

Wickenburg Rest area scouting trip. .  .
This was a early morning scouting trip a couple of us went on before the day's group field trip.   We were after geodes that were "suppose" to be across the river, down a railroad track, and up a ravine from a highway rest area East of Wickenburg.  The ravine was easy to find but turned out to be a dead-end ravine which we had to crawl up and out of .  Once above the ravine, we scouted the surrounding hills and dry stream beds for any indications of geodes.  Nothing!   Larry Landry took off like a bullet (his usual habit) and disappeared into the distance.  He reappeared after about an hour just as we were descending back down to the RR tracks.  He showed us the "geode" material that he had discovered but admitted that these were more like ugly agate/churt nodules and not really geodes.  At least the views were worth the hike!

Dennis Read and Larry Landry on the tracks!

Art Mott and Dennis Read surveying the hillside for geodes.  None found!
Notice the RR bridge across the ravine and highway in the upper portion of this photograph.
