Upstairs Demo Room

Faceting: Jay Gorday uses a special lapidary machine to grind flat areas i.e., facets into a translucent or clear stone to create a beautiful gemstone.

Jewelry Project Diana Poppelreuter shows how wire can be wrapped around a stone to make a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Micromounts: Tom Faller discusses micromounting and various aspects of the hobby. See beautiful microminerals with a microscope.

Shell Predation: Bob Jarrett shows you how to recognize shells that have been invaded by other organisms.

Downstairs Demo Room C

Cabbing: Charles Carter demonstrates the process of transforming and polishing a stone into a cabochon that can be incorporated into jewelry.

Rock Tumbling: Tom Bates shows how rocks go from rough to smooth in a rock tumbling machine.

Workshop Descriptions

Arrowhead Wire Wrap Pendant: Diana Poppelreuter will teach you how to wire wrap an arrowhead that you can wear as you shop at the show!

GMS Juniors Workshop: GMS junior members will have their May meeting at the show. Cantey Smith will help them have a sand-sational time making beautiful art with all natural colors of sand! Plus, they will get to see the sand under a microscope and learn about the sand itself!

Mineral/Fossil ID: Jason and Aaron Leatherwood will show you how to identify minerals and fossils. They will also be happy to identify specimens you bring in.

Origami Dinos: Lori Carter will help you fold a sheet of paper into an awesome dinosaur or erupting volcano!

Sand & Microscope: Lori Carter and Olga Jarrett will show you how to make a sand card and you will be amazed when you look at it under a microscope.

Super Springy Rock Pal: Lori Carter will help you make a fun, springy little person using beads, wire, and some simple tools. Pose your new friend as a super hero, rockhound, alien -- any way you want!

Tiny Tree: Lori Carter will show you how to make a teeny tiny tree with a little bit of wire and a rock.
