For those visitors new to the Georgia Mineral web site home, start by reading articles about our 65 year "club history" or you may want to go directly to our "Club Information Page" where you will find links to about everything you will need to know about our gem and mineral society. If this is a return visit, you should always go to our "What's New Page" for the latest additions and updates to this web site. On this one page you will find new links to all of the latest club information before it's published in our society's bulletin,"Tips and Trips" The Georgia Mineral Society is also represented on Atlanta's premier community access web site - "AccessAtlanta". Thanks to ongoing promotions at Access Atlanta our pages have maintained a high visibility in the Atlanta clubs community. This means that besides informing and entertaining our members, we can reach lots of additional folks who might find our society of interest. Check us out on "AccessAtlanta!" We have links to the most recent news from the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies, Inc. (SFMS) and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies Inc. (AFMS) Don't miss the current details on all AFMS/SFMS happenings! If you would like to join The Georgia Mineral Society and receive our award winning monthly newsletter (Tips & Trips) and the current field trip information, go to our "Membership Information Page" and print out a "Membership Form". Mail it in with your yearly dues. Please be sure to include an E-mail address so that we may add your name to our broadcast list to receive early notification of upcoming field trips and special society announcements. For questions about our web site or any of the areas of interest in our society, look to our "F.A.Q. page". We may have already answered some of them. If not, our E-Mail Page has all of our most important "E-Mail address". Our general e-mail address is gmsmail@gamineral.org If you would like to view hundreds of pictures from past field trips and on almost every aspect of our club, go to the GMS "Photo Menu". After you have seen some of the places we've visited, you may want to discover the details of our "last 12 months of collecting" trips or information on how you can obtain the specifics on our most "current field trips. Our society has many special interest groups (Mineral, Fossil, Micromount, Gem, and Juniors) to choose from. If you are specifically interested in learning more about a particular subject in our hobby, try one of our Section Meetings. Go to our "Sections Menu Page". Do you live in or near Atlanta? Please come to one our monthly "general meetings" held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at the Chamblee Public Library. The library is located at 4115 Clairmont Road. It's the only way you can really get to know us. For those outside the metro area, you might be interested in reviewing the list of "speakers" we've enjoyed in the last couple of years or what kind of programs we've had in one of our many past "section meetings". Be sure to find out about our TWO club sponsored Gem and Mineral shows per year. The next one will be the "Christmas Show" at the North Atlanta Trade Center, 1700 Jeurgens Court, Norcross, Ga. on December 7-9, 2001 Did you know that the Georgia Mineral Society is the originating and founding member of the "DMC/Field Trip Committee". The Committee's purpose is to exclusively share a field trip among other member societies located throughout the Southeastern United States. The DMC is now the Field Trip Committee of the SFMS. The Earth Science Education Mini-grant Program, sponsored by the Atlanta Geological Society and the Georgia Mineral Society, funds earth science education programs which aggressively promote earth science education. If you would like information on how your local educational system might qualify for this program, please read our "Mini-grant Page". Daily each of us witnesses the destruction of our precious mineral heritage. With each new strip mall, each new development, our environment is changed. As the hills are bull dozed away and as the ground is built upon and paved over, a page of our mineral history is lost to us. The" Georgia Mineral Heritage Project" seeks to document our mineral heritage within the state of Georgia. Not just for one mineral species or for a few collecting sites, but for as many minerals and mineral occurrences as we can. We believe we must move quickly before this information is forever lost. The Georgia Mineral Society is providing the structure and organization to make this project happen. In order to help facilitate communication among GMS members and those interested in the earth sciences, we have decided to start a GMS Discussion Group E-mail list. This will become THE WAY GMS members and others to connect and share our common interests and ideas. After joining, you may post a message of interest to be sent to the entire group for comment and/or discussion. You will also have access to the past message archive, 20 megabytes of private storage space for files or specimen pictures that you want to share, a private GMS chat room, polling functions, and much more. So why not join today and see what you can learn from our other GMS members! Another new feature - Now you can you can do a "whole site search" of all of the pages (253) contained in our Web home. Great for drilling down to the exact information your looking for! Please leave us a note on what you liked and didn't like about our web site. Also, try to mention what you would like to see added in the future! You may also like to try our "Auto-Response" e-mail below. After you have made your selection, a preformatted "form e-mail" will be sent your email address with the appropriate selected information.
