Just four vehicles departed for the Jonnybull mine on Saturday from Border’s Rock Shop. I decided to check out the dendrite location just a mile an a half of I-10 at Steins, NM. This field trip was written up in Neil Bearce new book - Minerals, Fossils, and Fluorescents of Arizona Steins. Everyone else went on to the Jonnybull. The dendrite site was pretty good but the road in required a four-wheeled vehicle to make it all the way. I decided to park on the lower level as the road up to the upper bench looked kind of bad in spots and I didn’t intend to pick up any specimens large enough to require my truck being handy. Sure enough, the Dendrites on the white slate were fairly easy to find but it did require some scrambling around some steep and crumbly rock slides. I filled my large backpack with some very nice specimens and made my way back to the truck and back out to the Interstate.
