Quarry Tour, Plant Tour, Various Rocks in Georgia

Trip Summary:
GMS members visited a granite quarry to watch and learn how granite blocks are quarried. Following the quarry tour, we visited a countertop processing plant where we saw numerous countertop slabs as well as state-of-the-art processing machines. After the plant tour, we collected a variety of countertop materials from scrap piles.
Many thanks to the owner of the company and the plant manager who took time out of their day to welcome us, lead us on fascinating tours, and answer all of our questions. Thank you to plant personnel who stopped to talk to our group and explain what they were doing and how they do it. What a great trip! It was the first time we were able to visit the quarry, and every time we visit the plant there is something new to see. Thanks again to Charles for arranging yet another fun and educational trip!
