Grab Bag
Grab bags -- those little bags filled with rocks, fossil, and minerals -- fun for kids and fun for adults!
Some members donate cloth, time, and their sewing skills to make the bags.
Other members collect goodies all year during field trips as well as their own collecting adventures and donate them to be used in these educational little bags.
Then, once (or twice) a year, we get together to stuff those bags!
So help make kids (and adults!) happy by making bags, providing goodies for the bags, or filling the bags!

Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026
Time: 9:00 AM 'til we are tired
Event: Annual Sewing Bee
Location: GMS Building
It’s that time again, looking for some volunteers to help make grab bags. If you have a sewing machine, bring it. But that’s not all folks, we need people to cut ribbon, cut material, turn the bags inside right and just hang out with a bunch of story swapping rockhounds.
This is one of those projects the whole family can help with. We sell around 1000 to 1500 grab bags a year. We sell them for $5.00, but there is easily $12.00 worth of goodies in each bag. We are able to do this because of the generous nature of our members. Some donate material, some rocks and fossils, some time and talents. Our goal is and always has been education.
Come when you can, we are grateful for any time you can donate. Lunch will be provided. Bring your sewing machine, scissors, or just yourself. All material, thread and ribbon will be provided. Hope to see you there.
