May Show Report

It is mid March and the show will be here before you know it.  Things are beginning to pick in activity. We are completing the various items of paperwork that have to be done for the show.  We are talking to advertisers, we drawing floor plans, and starting to receive the final payments from the dealers.

My thanks to all those who have volunteered as one of the chairs for the show. Susan F is our hospitality chair, Anita W is doing the displays chair, John T is the demonstrations chair, and Roxanne L is the dealer dinner chair. I’m still looking for someone to help out with advertising. This position would be best held by someone that has club purchasing power. Let me know if one if you are able to help. The setup takedown chair is also still available.

For all those who would like to help but your not sure how, there are many possibilities. There are sign up sheets for bringing food on the day before the show for the dealer dinner.  Another signup for sitting at the hospitality table and greeting people as they first come into the show. This is a great way to meet people if you are a new member. Anita has the sigh up sheet for displays. This is how we can show the public our
favorite fossil, gem, or mineral collection or our lapidary artwork. Don’t forget we need people to sign up for
demonstrations, if you have a lapidary skill or you just like to share your interest in rocks, this is the place to get to do just that. Lastly we will need people to help out with set up and take down. So if you have an interest in any of these topics please contact the chair for that activity and if you aren’t sure who to contact then ask any of the club officers for assistance.

Remember to put the show dates May 6-8 with the set up May
5th on your calendar.

We are looking forward to having a really BIG Show !!!

Thanks,
Tom Batcha

F.Y.I.

The show in May is the only fund raising event in which GMS participates.  We spend more money on publishing the "Tips and Trips" than is collected from membership fees.  We donate money each year to a scholarship fund for junior high schools.  We eventually hope to have the money to purchase a building for our meetings and to use as a workshop.  GMS has lapidary equipment that is in storage because we have no place to set up and teach classes.  When we ask for help at the shows, even if only to come and participate in the auctions, it will only benefit the club, not some imaginary clique.  Please do not be offended by this article, please be active in GMS.
